M.Litt. in Law

The Department of Law accepts applications for the full-time and part-time research Master's (M.Litt) degree. Applications are considered throughout the year.

Entry Criteria:

Entry to the research programme normally requires:

  • A minimum 2.1 Honours Degree

Interested candidates should:

a) Identify a potential supervisor (list below) and discuss their area of interest
b) Submit a research proposal to the supervisor.

Once the potential supervisor is satisfied with the proposal a formal application for entry may be made.

List of potential supervisors and research interests in the School:

Dr. Sibo Banda

  • LLB (Malawi), LLM (Warwick), PhD (UCC)
  • Specialisms: Constitutional law, The use of fundamental rights in private law, Legal pluralism in the Malawi legal system, Competing conceptions of property in the age of fundamental rights in the SADC region

Mr Brian Flanagan

  • BCL with French Law (UCD; Paris II), BCL (Oxon), MPhil (Oxon)
  • Specialisms: the nature of legal rules and legal reasoning. theories of meaning in jurisprudence the nature of common law appellate court reasoning

Professor Sandeep Gopalan

  • BA, LLB (NLSIU), BCL, D.Phil. (OXON.)
    Specialism: Corporate Governance, Transnational Commercial Law, and International Law

Dr. Louise Kennefick

  • Ph.D. (UCC)
  • Specialism: Criminal Law

Dr. Neil Maddox

  • BCL PhD (NUI) BL.
  • Specialisms: Property Law, Equity and Trusts, Housing Law, Banking and Finance.

Mr. Seth Tillman

  • B.A. (Chicago), J.D. (Harvard)
  • Specialism: Constitutional Law
