Research Postgraduate Degrees
Our research degrees are built on the research reputation of our faculty. They emphasise the highest standards of research in terms of methodology, originality, rigour and contribution to the scholarship. We are also committed to inter-disciplinary work and many faculty members' scholarship draws on insights from other social science disciplines. Joint supervision of dissertations and theses with supervisors from other departments is a growing practice.
The department's highest research postgraduate degree is the Ph.D. This requires a significant period of highly rigorous research and is primarily aimed at those seeking academic careers or those seeking to acquire demonstrable academic expertise on a specific topic for careers in research.
Our M.Litt. degree might be more appropriate for those seeking to write less than a full Ph.D. thesis.
