The Student Experience
Our students work in a demanding but fun intellectual environment. Classes are small and highly interactive. Discussions and debates are not just encouraged, but are the very staple of the classroom experience here. Students typically make presentations in class at least once every semester, building valuable oral presentation and analytical skills as part of their education. The department's approach ensures that students learn as much from each other as from the faculty. The heavy emphasis placed on legal writing also ensures that our students are well prepared for demanding careers once they leave the department. Students also have ready access to faculty members for consultation on curricular and other matters.
“Studying law in Maynooth has not only given me a qualification from a department I can be proud of, it has also provided me with some of the most interesting and challenging discussions I have ever encountered. It gave me a range of valuable opportunities from meeting judges of the High Court to editing the Golden Thread to spending time studying abroad and allowing me to see law from a more international perspective. Choosing NUIM Law remains one of the best decisions I have ever made.”
Aislinn O'Connell BBL (NUIM)
“In Maynooth, the balance of law and another Arts subject such as Sociology is fascinating & integral to my positive university experience and study. Studying Law in Maynooth means that you are immediately part of a supporting network of students and experienced lecturers, where the office door is always open, and you are encouraged to ask questions and think on your feet. You will learn that nobody has a monopoly on wisdom or the law - as a law student, you are building the potential to help shape society itself.”
Siona Cahill (2nd Year Law and Arts)
“I’m in my final year of studying Law and Arts at Maynooth. As a final year student I’ve realised how amazing my time here has been and how much I will miss Maynooth next year. Studying Law at Maynooth has given me an abundance of chances to expand my CV, with the help and assistance of the faculty who offer an open door policy and are always willing to help. There is more to studying at Maynooth; there are loads of extracurricular activities students can get involved with including ELSA, the Law Soc, the Golden Thread and a Law Journal. My experience working with ELSA has improved my confidence and given me access to opportunities I could only dream of before. If you’re looking for a Law School that will go that extra mile, NUIM Law is it.”
Claire Finegan (3rd Year BCL)
